Dr. Murphy is the founding CEO of EyeKor. He is a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist, and Professor of Comparative Ophthalmology in the Schools of Veterinary Medicine & Medicine, University of California-Davis. Dr. Murphy has advanced training and expertise in corneal diseases and surgery, comparative physiological optics, comparative ocular anatomy, as well as ocular diseases of laboratory and exotic animal species. He also serves as CEO for Ocular Services on Demand (OSOD) LLC, a distributed network of experts that support preclinical programs in ocular drug development.
Dr. Huang is the President, CTO, and a Co-founder of EyeKor. He has 20+ year experience in leading software and hardware development for ophthalmic imaging applications, both in academic and in FDA-regulated environments. Dr. Huang is interested in developing methodologies relating to ophthalmic imaging and analysis, with the aims of increasing efficiency, gaining additional insights, shortening development time, and reducing costs for ophthalmic clinical trials.
Dr. Ron Danis is a Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer of EyeKor. Dr. Danis is a practicing medical retina specialist, Professor Emeritus of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has been Principal Investigator on more than thirty industry and federally funded multi-center clinical trials. His main interests include retinal imaging and the design and conduct of clinical trials. Dr. Danis serves on leadership committees and data safety monitoring boards for multiple collaborative studies in drug and device development. He has co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has been awarded the Honor Award and the Senior Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Gary Leatherberry has over 25 years of experience in drug development ranging from dose formulation technician to Study Director. For the past 16 years he has been involved solely in ophthalmology trials and is currently the Chief Operating Officer for EyeKor and EyeKor’s partner OSOD. Gary has had the rewarding experience of holding a 2-mL vial of a new chemical entity and following its path to becoming a leading therapeutic for AMD. He is now looking forward to the advancements that EXCELSIOR can bring to ocular drug development by bridging the gap between preclinical and clinical programs.
Nathan Diers is EyeKor’s Senior Director of Operations. He brings 10 years of preclinical and clinical ophthalmology research experience to EyeKor. With a wide range of experience in ophthalmology devices/software, image management, and project management, Nathan works extensively with study sponsors and central reading centers to develop imaging protocols and grading forms to meet the specific needs of each trial. He also leads the software development and validation team, working to improve the functionality of the EXCELSIOR™ platform while maintaining the quality and regulatory standards vital for clinical trials.
Anne Goulding has 15 years of experience in preclinical and clinical ophthalmology trials. As the Director of Clinical Operations at EyeKor, Anne leads EyeKor’s team of personnel dedicated to site certification, image processing, and image quality review. She also specializes in protocol review and the development of imaging procedures for Phase I-IV clinical trials across multiple imaging modalities. Anne collaborates with CROs, sponsors and reading center personnel to optimize the study start-up process and maintain transparency and communication throughout the course of the study.
Stephen Travers brings many years of experience in ophthalmic imaging and clinical trials to EyeKor. He has held previous positions as Director of Ophthalmic Imaging at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX; Principal Clinical Research Scientist at Alcon in Fort Worth, TX; and Manager of Clinical Affairs at Heidelberg Engineering Germany. With a special interest in retinal disease imaging and its application in clinical trials, Stephen played a major part in the recognition and approval of autofluorescence imaging as an endpoint in clinical studies for age-related macular degeneration.
As senior director of clinical research my vision and goals are to see the integration of EyeKor’s technology platforms into all ophthalmic clinical trials, and to foster a closer collaboration with pharmaceutical sponsors, contract research organizations, ophthalmic reading centers, clinical imaging sites and imaging technology developers and manufactures.
Heather Felton has over 10 years of quality and regulatory experience in GxP and FDA regulated industries. Heather holds two professional certifications issued by the American Society for Quality: ASQ Certified Quality Auditor and ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer. As the Quality Assurance Manager at EyeKor, Inc, Heather ensures regulatory compliance of EXCELSIOR™, a 510(k)-medical device, and GxP compliance of ongoing activities in support of clinical and pre-clinical trial management. Areas of expertise include GxP, ISO, ICH, software validation, software development life cycle, quality by design, auditing, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, CAPA, process improvement, risk assessment, and quality management systems. Heather’s progressive approach to EyeKor’s onsite quality not only ensures ongoing regulatory compliance at EyeKor, but also aids in developing and maintaining processes that ensure organizational efficiency and growth.
Melissa Burger is the Manager of EXCELSIOR™ Operations, and works with the EyeKor management team to define the needs of the study stake-holders, explore solutions and integrate specifications into the EXCELSIOR™ platform. As a project manager of multiple trials, she provides assistance to clinical sites and guidance to sponsors at every step of their trial, from start up through close-out. With over 10 years of experience in ophthalmic clinical trial project management, Melissa serves as the point-of-contact for sponsor, CRO and clinical site personnel, providing training, workflow monitoring, and customer support in EXCELSIOR™.
Kelsey Cushman has over 6 years of experience in the clinical trial industry. Previously working to help expedite the site selection process between sponsors and clinical research sites, Kelsey has a keen understanding of the clinical trial process from site initiation to study completion. Kelsey manages multiple trials as a Project Manager, including (but not limited to) maintaining and updating all study components within EXCELSIOR™ throughout the life of each trial, helping to answer questions and guiding EXCELSIOR™ users through the platform, and supporting sponsor clients in numerous facets.
Kristjan Burmeister has 10 years of project management experience with ophthalmic clinical trials and human subjects research. Additionally, he has 8 years of immunology research and technical experience in both industry and academia. As a project manager at EyeKor Inc., he oversees all phases of a study as well as manages personnel for the Ocular Imaging Specialist group. Kristjan performs training on the EXCELSIOR™ platform and reviews certifications of equipment and personnel.
Jeremy Lawn is a Project Manager at EyeKor, with over a decade of experience in the world of on-demand software and services. Jeremy oversees document generation, site certification, image processing, e-CRF development, as well as configuration and validation of the EXCELSIOR™ study management platform. Jeremy works directly with pharmaceutical and biotech sponsors to drive studies forward with a tactical and pragmatic method, specializing in the conduct of clinical trials from protocol inception through final data delivery. Jeremy strives to innovate, increase efficiency, develop exceedingly streamlined workflows, and deliver successful and timely study results, with a distinct approach to client service throughout the trial.
Brian Fischer graduated with his Masters of Science and has since been working with Ophthalmic Clinical Trials. He has a wide range of experience that has translated well and gives him an edge when working with people all over the globe. In addition to being a project manager at EyeKor, he is also the Specular Microscopy Lead and is responsible for the daily activities of all Specular Microscopy graders as well specific training within the EXCELSIOR™ platform.
Peter Cueno is Eyekor's Project Manager for the EXCELSIOR™ Pre-Clinical platform. He has several years of pre-clinical research experience, in addition to having worked with a diverse array of clientele. At Eyekor, Pete works closely with pre-clinical CROs to ensure accurate study configuration and timely data availability. He also applies his knowledge of the pre-clinical environment and complexities to software development in order to explore new solutions within the EXCELSIOR™ platforms.
Seth Eaton, DVM, DACVO
Dr. Eaton is a Board-Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist. He received his veterinary degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency in comparative ophthalmology at the University of California—Davis. He is a Comparative Ocular Consultant at EyeKor, and a clinical member of Ocular Services On Demand (OSOD) with experience in preclinical ocular drug development and toxicology, and in clinical trials for orphan retinal disease. Prior to joining OSOD, he established the ophthalmology service at Cornell University Veterinary Specialists (CUVS) in Stamford, Connecticut. His clinical and research interests include comparative retinal imaging, novel retinal therapeutics, off-target ocular toxicity, and translational medicine and ophthalmology.
